Pepsi Nitro

It’s Thursday. Pepsi Nitro is the latest variation of Pepsi to hit the shelves. Instead of carbonation, this new product uses nitrogen. Supposedly there’s a device in the bottom of each can that infuses the nitrogen directly into the drink. It makes a texture that’s somewhat foamy and creamy, much like a Guinness beer. And the similarities with Guinness end there.

A friend of mine picked up the Draft Cola version and let me try it. When I took a sip the first thing I noticed was the lack of carbonation. It tastes flat. Really flat. That happy fizzy sensation you normally get when drinking a pop is completely missing. The next thing that hit me was unexpected—it tastes nothing like Pepsi. I don’t know what flavor they were shooting for but it didn’t taste at all like Pepsi. It says Pepsi on the can but it certainly wasn’t Pepsi in the can.

Pepsi Nitro is a big miss, in my opinion. It’s a novelty that will likely pass largely unnoticed. If Pepsi wants to do something worth-while, bring back Pepsi Holiday Spice!
