It’s Done

It’s Thursday. We buried my aunt yesterday. It was an unusually beautiful mild day that started with a private service for her and close family. After that was the Funeral Procession out to the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery where she was put to rest with her husband who passed away roughly 20 years ago. I was doing fairly well after we arrived until the three pipers began playing Amazing Grace on bagpipes. That was hard. We wrapped it up later in the afternoon with a lunch at a local restaurant.

If there’s anything good to come out of this, it was seeing cousins, friends, and other family members that came in from near and far. It was great seeing everyone over this past several days, some of which I hadn’t seen in many, many years. A bittersweet experience. And the older I get, the more frequent these experiences are likely to be. Not sure if I’m ready for this.

This Sunfire Yellow L88 Corvette is the only known 1967 Corvette L88 to have its original engine intact. This also the only original-motor C2 L88 to have earned multiple awards, including multiple NCRS Top Flights and the NCRS Duntov award, Bloomington Gold certification, and the MCACN Triple Diamond. The car was also part of Bloomington Gold’s 2018 L88 Explosion.

The car famously underwent a 10-year restoration before being offered for $3.95 Million by Corvette Mike back in December 2019, and it’s also known to be the only ’67 L88 offered from the factory wearing Sunfire Yellow.

The 2024 Ridler Award

It’s Tuesday. Since its debut at the 1964 Detroit Autorama, the Ridler is one of the country’s most prestigious automotive awards that concerns custom and hot rod car owners and builders. Given annually to an exceptional vehicle that falls under strict “never been shown before” guidelines, the folks who win this prize become members of a very elite group.

This year’s winner is the 1953 Chevrolet Corvette “Twelve-Air” created by Kindig-It Designs of Millcreek, Utah.
