Gruesome!

It’s Thursday. When your Halloween display is so realistic that passers-by call the police, then you’re probably doing it right!

A few days ago, we reported on an eye-popping crash between a Chevrolet Silverado pickup and a C8 Corvette in Thornton, Colorado. The truck rolled over the C8 head-on at a four-way stop, effectively crushing the roof. Corvette driver Robert Widom and his wife Lisa were in the car, and while their blood pressure surely shot up to the sky, both walked away from the incident without injury.

The driver of the truck was arrested on suspicion of DWAI (Driving While Ability Impaired), police told Road & Track.

“At first, I didn’t think he was going to come at me; I thought he was going to make a left-hand turn,” Widom commented on a Facebook post. “By the time that was processed in my mind, it was too late.”

According to the City of Thornton’s fire department, three different fire companies responded to the call and had to remove one of the Silverado’s wheels to free the Widoms.

“After the initial impact, the truck driver continued to accelerate, only stopping after some incredible witnesses intervened,” Widom said. “I yelled at them to turn off the truck since it was leaking antifreeze on us.”

After a “nerve-wracking” wait, Widom said it took the first responders 20 minutes to free them from the C8.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the C8’s engineering—it held up amazingly well,” Widom said.
