Off to surgery…

It’s Tuesday. Well, Abby had her visit with the doctor yesterday and it was decided that she will undergo surgery to repair her broken tibia. The doctor explained that this is the best option for her.  She explained that there were a number of advantages proceeding with a surgical repair, one of which is she won’t have such a restrictive cast limiting her mobility while she heals. I’m apprehensive about this but I like the doctor and I think she understands what’s best for Abby.

Now we wait.

What A Mess

It’s Monday. So everything went to hell early Friday morning. Our five month old puppy, Abby, decided to take a flying leap from the couch and landed funky on the hardwood floor. She immediately started yelping, so we knew she hurt something. After an x-ray at our local Vet it was confirmed that she had broken her tibia. They then sent us to an animal hospital who took her in and put her entire rear leg in a cast from top to bottom. If you have ever had a pet get injured, especially a puppy, then you know how horrible it is to see them in pain. At least with a person, you can tell them that it’s going to be alright. That’s not the case with animals.

So, today we have to take her back to the animal hospital for another more detailed x-ray. They will then decide if surgery is going to be necessary. If it is, everything gets very complicated and much more expensive. A pretty shitty Friday the 13th it was.

On Sunday we traveled down to my girlfriend’s parent’s place to have a Christmas dinner and exchange gifts with her side of the family. We brought the pooch with us which was really good for her, she got lots of love from everyone there. The food was fantastic and we all had a great time, despite watching the Bears get ass-raped by the Packers yet again. We had heard that there was snow expected down there but only an inch or two. Once we got on the road to head home, the snow quickly became a problem. It was coming down so hard that I couldn’t see the yellow center line or the white side line of the road. We were on 47 which is a dark country road with deep ditches on both sides and could only manage 30 mph. We did roughly two hours of that before it finally let up. A normally one and a half hour trip ended up taking us over three hours. I’m so ready for this weekend to be over.

A Relatives Christmas

It’s Sunday! I finished decorating my car tree the other day. I now have over 25 different automotive ornaments ranging from Corvettes to various Hollywood vehicles like the Vacation Family Truckster to the KITT Trans-Am. It gets more difficult to fit them all on the tree every year because my collection keeps growing. I suppose I’ll have to get a larger tree before long.

We’re heading down to my girlfriend’s parents place today for Christmas dinner with her side of the family. There will be a ton of tasty stuff to eat and some gifts exchanged, so it should be a nice afternoon. The Bears are playing the Packers today so I hope that I can see at least some of the game while digging into the chicken & lasagna!
