Birthday!

It’s Wednesday. Well, well… guess who’s 27th birthday it is today? No, not me—that ship sailed decades ago! It just so happens that I started this website 27 years ago today, October 26th, 1995. In tech years that’s a hell of a long time. I started this thing back when the Internet was just beginning to transition from something only the tech-savvy were using, to something that the average public was beginning to use. The only way to access the Internet back then was from work or via dial-up on a home computer. And thanks to companies like Gateway, home computers were quickly becoming more affordable and common.

So, why did I create a daily website 27 years ago? All I remember was I wanted to learn how to do it. Once I did it, I wanted people to see it. I didn’t want to do all the work and have it seen by only a handful of my friends. So I started posting my comments along with other things like jokes and, you guessed it, photos of beautiful women. Other sites started linking to it and suddenly it went from roughly one-hundred visitors a day to thousands—and then tens of thousands. I was happy to keep it going as long as people would visit, which brings me to today. Still free with no advertising… for 27 years!

I just quickly dug up a few graphics from past versions of my website and put them into a gallery below. A few of them might be familiar to some of you. Enjoy!

Warm Weekend

It’s Monday. We had a rare late October warmup over the weekend that was a nice surprise. The girlfriend and I took a trip down to her parent’s place in central Illinois on Saturday. Her brother and sisters were in town so it was a good excuse to get together for the day. It was nice seeing everyone again and the food was tasty.

After we got back from her parent’s place, we decided to take a cruise around and check out some more Halloween decorations. People around here really get into decorating so there’s always plenty of cool and creative displays. We found this really tall ghoulish figure (pictured above) not far from our place. We’re also seeing lots of giant spiders and 12-foot skeletons. Anything super-big definitely seems to be in this year. With Halloween now only a week away, I’m hoping to get out at least one more time to see what else we can discover.
